Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan joined in a wide-ranging discussion with John H. Ruggie, professor of Human Rights and International Affairs at Harvard University, who served as Annan's assistant secretary-general for strategic planning. The February 8 talk at the City College of New York was sponsored by the Colin L. Powell Center for Leadership and Service and the City College Division of Social Science. The event marked the completion of a six-year joint CCNY-Yale University project to research, collect, organize, and publish the official papers of Kofi Annan.

Kofi Annan to Speak at City College Friday, February 8

On Friday, February 8, Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary-General, will deliver a special guest lecture at City College. His appearance, sponsored by the Colin L. Powell Center for Leadership and Service, marks the publication of his collected papers, a joint six-year CCNY-Yale project, led by principle investigator Jean Krasno. Professor Krasno is the Center’s initiative director for multilateral diplomacy and international organizations.

Volunteering in the Rockaways with the Clinton Global Initiative

Before going out to volunteer in the Rockaways with the Clinton Global Initiative's (CGI) Day of Action, I had spoken to other volunteers who echoed sentiments similar to my own—regret at not being able to help earlier, frustration over the lack of accessibility to affected areas, the difficulty of connecting to an organization that needed more than just money, and the feelings of inadequacy in tackling the larger problems of recovering electricity and heat to families in need. The CGI Day of Action answered some of those frustrations.
